Give & Gain Day is the UK’s only national day of work volunteering. Over the last five years it has encouraged companies to bring community action to life, whether they’re just starting out on the volunteering journey or a veteran of it.
Today, Friday 17 May is National Give & Gain Day in the UK for 2013.
Last year over 19,000 volunteers from 391 companies across 28 countries took part.
The business case for volunteering is well proven, with results from the Business In Community 2012 survey further backing it up:
- 49% of people who took part had never volunteered through their company before;
- 95% would volunteer through their company again;
- 86% felt their employer’s support of volunteering improved their perception of the company;
- 95% felt the work time given to volunteering was repaid by the benefits of the experience
Give & Gain Day therefore provides an ideal opportunity for us all to consider supporting our local schools, hospices, charities or community projects, preferably with colleagues, clients and service partners alike.
In the last financial year MITIE undertook over 1,200 employee volunteering days, utilising skills and time for a variety of good causes.
Stephen Barthorpe, Head of Community Engagement MITIE Foundation says:-
“Volunteering projects offer excellent opportunities for team-building and skills development as well as being ideal for enhancing relationships with our clients and suppliers whilst supporting good causes.
“I therefore encourage you all to think about what you and your teams can do for the National Volunteering Campaign and make it fun!”
“Consciously or unconsciously, every one of us does render some service or other. If we cultivate the habit of doing this service deliberately, our desire for service will steadily grow stronger, and will make, not only our own happiness, but that of the world at large.” Gandhi (1869-1948)
Happy Volunteering! We’d love to hear about what volunteering activities you and your colleagues are getting involved in today. Leave a comment below…
