Diane Taylor on working as a receptionist

Diane TaylorWhat is your role?

I’m a receptionist based in a small office location in Crewe.

How long have you worked in front of house?

27 years in total so far and 12 of those in my current position.

What does a typical day look like in your role?

We welcome a lot of visitors to our building so I’m meeting and greeting all of my guests and ensuring they always have a memorable visit.

What’s the most interesting thing about your job?

Working for a national company as I get to meet people from all over the country and I love it.

Have you got any interesting stories you can share?

There are a number of buildings around ours, with a gym behind and a tax office nearby, so I’ve received some very confused visitors over the years. I had a gentleman come in wearing a long black gown and black turban looking for a massage once, and an older gentlemen wanted me to take £100 off him because he had a deadline to pay back to the tax office! He insisted on giving me the money and I ended up ringing the tax office for him before directing him to the post office with instructions on how to pay it in. There’s never a dull day!

What is your favourite part of the role?

I love meeting people, I love the hustle and bustle and the general feeling of greeting visitors and having friendly chats with my regular guests.
